Location and landscape
Leistadt is a district of Bad Dürkheim in Rhineland-Palatinate. The place lies on the slope of the Palatinate Forest at around 230 metres above sea level and is locally regarded as the highest-lying district of Bad Dürkheim. The area includes vineyards as well as the Felsenberg-Berntal nature reserve, with views over the Rhine plain.
History
According to local documentation, the history of Leistadt dates back to the 13th century.
Felsenberg vineyard site
On the edge of the Haardt lies the wine-growing site Felsenberg in the Felsenberg-Berntal nature reserve. The south-facing position is at 220 metres above sea level and has a slope gradient of 25 per cent. It lies on a natural rock ledge of tertiary limestone; the soil is described as weathered limestone with deposits of iron.
Pinot Noir from the site
Pinot Noir has been documented for Felsenberg. A corresponding wine is produced as VDP.GROSSE LAGE and as a quality wine b. A. from the protected designation of origin of the Pfalz region. The vines were replanted in 2011 with Burgundy clones. The documented cultivation includes cover crops of buckwheat, clover and radish, horse manure fertilisation, selective leaf work and low yields.
