Location and landscape
Einselthum is a local municipality in the Donnersberg district in Rhineland-Palatinate and belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Göllheim. The village lies at an elevation of about 210 metres on a south-facing slope above the Zellertal.
Viticulture and soils
Viticulture shapes the use of the municipal area; Einselthum has around 82 hectares of vineyard land. The vineyards are located on sunny south-facing slopes with gradients of up to 15 per cent. The local soils are described as loamy and calcareous. The influence of the Donnersberg to the west is partly attributed to the mild wine-growing climate.
Vineyard sites
The individual vineyard sites Klosterstück and Kreuzberg in the winegrowing region Pfalz belong to the Großlage Schnepfenpflug from the Zellertal. In the 2024 directory of vineyard sites, 59.4 hectares in Klosterstück and 16.4 hectares in Kreuzberg are listed for the Einselthum areas as being planted with vines.
History and grape varieties
According to information from the municipality, winegrowing in Einselthum goes back to Roman times. The oldest documented mention of the village from the year 791 already referred to vineyards or wine estates. Documented grape varieties from an Einselthum winegrowing business are Portugieser, Riesling and Weißburgunder.
