Location and landscape
Albersweiler is a wine village in the Queich valley between the Haardt and the Wasgau and belongs to Pfalz. The municipal area comprises 1,085 hectares. The place is surrounded by vineyards and chestnut woods and lies in the Palatine Forest Biosphere Reserve. The climate is considered mild; almond trees may already be in bloom in March.
Viticulture and single vineyard
The municipality has 76 hectares of vineyard area. The single vineyard Latt is an official single vineyard in the Palatinate growing area, in the South German Wine Route and within the larger vineyard classification Königsgarten. The 2024 directory of vineyard sites lists for Latt in the Albersweiler cadastral area 68.4 hectares of planted vineyard area.
The site, which is oriented to the south to south-west, lies at around 175 to 190 metres above sea level and has a slope gradient of 15 to 30 per cent. Its soils consist of terrace gravel and Keuper sedimentary rock. In the VDP vineyard profile, Gewürztraminer is listed as a classified grape variety. According to statements by Ökonomierat Rebholz, the site was planted in 1947 with pergola training.
History
According to information from the local administration, Albersweiler was founded more than 1,000 years ago. The Albersweiler canal was created in 1687 and 1688 in order to transport stones from the local stone quarries for the construction of Landau fortress.
